AAN: S A BESTUURSLEDE
PROVINSIALE VOORSITTERS

Archie attended the meeting of SASCOC held in Gauteng on 10 April 2010. He had fruitful discussions with several of the high profile executive members of SASCOC and reported that, in his view, an application for membership by our association would be considered favorably. I received an application form from Almari Visser, the secretary of Gauteng North Biathlon, who also attended the meeting on behalf of other federations. I completed the form and submitted our application for membership. I attach hereto, for your information, ‘n attachment to the application with some info required by SASCOC. We now await the outcome of the application. From what I can gather, the application has to be discussed and possible membership considered at a general meeting of SASCOC. Rumors reached my ears that a certain president of a certain federation plans to oppose our application. I do not want to say anything more about that at this stage.

At the AGM an amendment to the Constitution was approved. I have formulated the amendment as follows and numbered it Clause 13.2.3

“The President elected may after consultation with the other members of the Management Committee co-opt an additional member or members on the Management Committee to provide for wider representation on the Committee”

I have carefully considered the issue. I have called for CV’s from two ladies I had in mind to co-opt, both from Gauteng North, namely Almari Visser (GN’s secretary) and Ananda Blignaut de Waal (GN’s treasurer). Both these ladies have served Biathlon for many years and both of them have already received SA Colours Honoris Causa. I submitted these CV’s to the Exco members of SA Biathlon. I have received their views and eventually made a difficult decision and decided to co-opt Almari Visser on the Management Committee. Congratulations to Almari! Having regard to information received from Johan van de Venter and having perused Ananda’s CV, I have earmarked her as a future treasurer of SA Biathlon. Almari’s first duty would be to keep her eyes open and her ears on the ground regarding our future relationship with SASCOC, in particular at the meeting of that body on 5 May 2010.

The majority of Biathlon provinces are now going into a winter recess. The only exception that I am aware of is Western Province with their winter programs. What ever you do, enjoy it! I wish all provinces good luck with the AGM’s which are normally held during these winter months.

Biathlon regards.
